Much needed vacation!!

It is finally here.  The vacation Chris & I have been planning & saving for is finally here in T minus 48 hours.  We booked this trip almost 4 months ago & I have been counting down ever since.  I think Chris realized he was in trouble when I can home with sun dresses, bathing suits & fresh sunscreen in February.  My excuse..."we will need it when we are in the Bahamas" or even better "won't this (insert article of clothing) look great with a tan"

In 48 hours we will be loading a plane & landing in the Bahamas around 2pm.  I am sure you will be able to find me on a beach or in a hammock with a fruity, umbrella topped drink by 3:30pm.

All that said, I have thriftily purchased a few pieces of new summer clothing for the both of us & it they are packed and ready to fly.  The house is (almost) clean & ready to be shown while we are away...contracts welcome!!  The dogs are bathed with 2 weeks of food, treats & toys packed for grandma's house.  There is no more laundry left to done, stacks of paperwork in my office or food left in the fridge.  No food = gummy worms, tomato soup & cereal for dinner:)

I am treating myself to a long overdue manicure & pedicure, coffee with a dear friend & one last run today.  I have checked everything off my "to do" list & Chris finished his "honey do" list last night.

Can you sense the excitement?!?!?  Blue waters, sandy beaches & warm salt air on my face!

For someone who takes long weekends away, has a very flex job & seems to always be planning a mini vacation, this trip could not come at a better time.  It seems like forever ago that we were in Florida (Sept).  The last vacation wore off fast!  We were blessed to be able to use my mother in law's timeshare for our Florida trip & now again for the Bahamas...Thank you Peggy!!

Plus, what better way to spend two weeks than by celebrating with friends!  Our friends Mike & Marie are getting married in the Bahamas on May 22nd and Jeremy & Jessica will tie the knot in the Outer Banks the following weekend, May 29th.  We are so happy for both couples and are honored to be able to share in each couples day!

Pictures to follow when we return.  Until next time...

13.1 or bust!

This past Saturday I concurred the Park to Park half marathon.  Concurred is probably not the best word to use when describing the run.  As I crossed the finish line (all but in tears), I wondered what pushed me to run this distance just 6 weeks after the Shamrock.  I limped over the finish line with blisters on my feet, tears in my eyes & totally dehydrated. It was 85 degrees, humid & hilly, so needless to say I did not make my goal of 2:15, in fact, I did not even come close.  It was a easy, breezy first 8 miles.  In fact, I felt good.  I was on a roll and cruising towards my goal to beat my previous time by 10 minutes.  Then, I hit a wall at mile 9 & I totally fell apart at mile 11 when I saw my mom cheering me on.  She was my saving grace & I am pretty sure I would have walked the rest of the way had it not been there telling to RUN!  Although not the best running experience, I am so glad I ran, finished & had my cheerleader there!  Another race under my belt, a great learning experience & lots of miles to start of running month!  My goals are ever changing.  I need to keep my asthma under control in order to keep up running through the summer, I hope to add miles slowly but surely with more runs per week, I am going to keep up training for another half in November in hopes to improve my time.  Who knows, maybe I will upgrade to the full:)  Thank you mom for being my cheerleader.  Thank you Adam for making me my own BGC race shirt.  Thank you Chris for supporting me in every adventure I want to tackle!

Until next time...

I hate needles!

Yes, that pretty much sums it up.  I hate, fear, cringe at the thought of, & wince at needles.  I do not give blood, I put off immunization/booster shots & I certainly do not voluntarly get a flu shot.

All that to be said, I have horrible allergies.  Not just your average spring time pollen allergy, but full blown, 9 months out of the year ALLERGIES.  After much debate & no luck with over the counter drugs, I decided to get allergy tested.  What does that entail you ask...38 "pricks" on my back.  I broke out, itched for hours & they have determined that I am allergic to everything airborne, but mostly pollen, grass & pets.

The next step is to get shots.  Yes, you read right...SHOTS.  I am signing up to get 6 shots a week for the next 6 months, followed by smaller doses/less shots indefinatly.  Although not excited about the prospect of using my day off to drive 45 minutes to get shot 6 times, I am excited about the prospect of getting to enjoy the great outdoors.  I am excited to be able to run, hike, bike or just stroll through the neighborhood with the dogs in tow & not have my eyes watering and nose running.  I look forward to the times I will be able to lay in the sun & not worry that my face is swelling up.  Most of all, I cannot wait to sleep with the windows open on a cool evening & not wake up swollen & stuffy.

For now, I will continue to complain to my hubby about the pain & soreness in my arm.  But soon, I will be footloose & pollen free.

Until next time...Happy Allergy season!

Joining the blogging band wagon!

What is the saying? If everyone jumps off a cliff, are you going to follow? Well, I guess you can say yes! Since everyone is blogging these days, I am going to follow suit. Although I am not sure what is so exciting about me, my life or what my dogs did, I like the idea of a life journal & it will make things a little easier to remember when I get back to scrap booking.

Here is to a new goal of "journaling"!!
